Which Type of Website is Best for Me?
Think your business or side hustle is ready for a website, but maybe not sure what type of website you need?
Don’t worry we will share our best opinion on different types of websites and when they are useful.
Landing page
Your website can be a super simple single page and have everything you need on there for whoever is trying to find you.
This can usually be a mobile-friendly option because it's just one page of scrolling.
Who is this type of site good for?
Someone who doesn't necessarily need to share that much online content with their audience but perhaps needs a space online for just a few key functions;
Like your contact information, where people can find you, and a basic about me section so website visitors understand what you offer
Could be a good option to house your resume or portfolio
Think simple, clean, bare minimum
Standard Website
This option has the ability to store your information or organize a portfolio through multiple pages.
While this can be a little more robust than a landing page, it allows you to manage a greater amount of content that you might want to share online.
Who is this type of website good for?
When you have enough information for your website that consolidating all of it onto a landing page would leave your visitors scrolling for dayssss, you can use pages to break up the content.
Food bloggers, restaurants, artists, photographers, newly started recording my quarantine hobby, or even a private event caterer.
eCommerce Website
A website that plans on selling digital or physical products or even having workshop sign ups.
This option starts to introduce an advanced website in order to house not only the information you want your customers to have about the products your providing, but contains the proper marketplace as well.
Who is this type of website good for?
Store owner, exercise studio, educator (selling courses/classes)
If your purpose is for people to either sign-up or shop on your site for free or at a cost, this will require an eCommerce style website.
Would recommend for business owners who are further along in their business to be able to manage these sales on the website because they can no longer on their own with a standard website.
Things to Remember
Don’t get too caught up in your decision for what type of website you need.
Your website might be a landing page for now, but you can always upgrade later either with your current website builder or using a different one.
If you’re not sure which website builder you should use check out our blog post explaining three different website builders and how which one will work best for you.
Hopefully, based on the descriptions above of each type of site and which one you would use, this gives you a better idea of what website you need to start your business.
