If you haven’t caught on yet to the expanding vegan food scene in the Bay Area, there was a clear reiteration of this culinary movement with the successful turnout of Berkeley’s first all-vegan food festival.

This past weekend, MediYumm was graciously invited to this community’s highly anticipated event, where we got to meet over a dozen vendors, enjoy some live music, and hear from a few key speakers that opened the discussion on the social missions behind the support for vegan food - including health awareness, dietary biodiversity, and the inclusion of cultures that have traditionally incorporated veganism into their food customs.

The sold-out occasion came as the vision of vegan food blogger and critic Erika Hazel, a.k.a The Bizerkeley Vegan, who tirelessly worked and led her team of volunteers to put on an ultimate foodie event - whether you’re a practicing vegan or not.

From finding flavorful plates of BBQ and mac and cheese that would fool any devout carnivore, to fried mushroom Po’ Boys you could smell around the block, to satisfying those sweet cravings with Filipino baked goods and some hella fresh smoothies, the Bizerekeley Food Fest served up right.

While they were also able to accommodate the wandering, hungry crowd just outside the ticketed area with food trucks like The Vegan Hood Chefs and De La Tierra, we highly recommend you make sure to grab tickets early next year for access to more of the hottest Bay Area vegan vendors. In case you did missed the festivities this year,

  1. Give our friend The Bizerkeley Vegan a follow on Instagram for announcements on the next event.

  2. Check out our list of where you can still find some of the featured food.
